SB Underpass

Today is National Heroes Day and a holiday here in the Philippines. And no work means more time for the family. We decided to go to the QC Circle for some quality time. We haven't been there for some time now, although its one of our favorite places.

We rode a jeepney from the house and alighted at the QC City Hall. There we saw the Belmonte Underpass, the first underpass in Quezon City.

At the underpass are some photo exhibits of the history of Quezon City, and even the city mayors from before until the current, Sonny "SB" Belmonte. The underpass was well lighted and have a guard at both ends. The kids had fun looking at the photos.

This is the entrance to the underpass from the QC circle and you can see the city hall from this shot. Like the QC circle, the entrance to the city hall is also under renovation. Belmonte's vision is to make the QC circle a world class park. I just hope that these nice projects will not be set aside should there be a new mayor in QC.

New Logo for Okay Ukay!

For the next few days, you may notice changes in my logo. I am having so much fun trying out Picnik.com that I tried to make may own logo. I will put up each output here and try it on for size. The one above is my first try. And it doesn't match the lay out yet.

If you have other logo maker out there, please point them out to me. I may just be able to create the one logo for keeps. If only my broadband connection isn't crawling!

Wang Wang Ng Ina Mo

I saw a tweet regarding this video saying the guy makes perfect sense and so I watched it. Sure enough, he said exactly what we all wanted to say and more. View it here:

He said that whenever we see those unauthorized vehicles with siren, we should not give way. However, husband and I had a scary brush with one of them. One evening along Ortigas extension going to San Juan, we were on our motorcycle. Despite the traffic, a motorcycle can get through small spaces between cars and get ahead of the line. When we get near a car with a siren on a stoplight, who was waiting for the traffic aide frantically trying to stop the ongoing traffic, a bodyguard rolled down the window and motion for us to stay where we were with a gun! Well, the gun was not pointed at us, but you can see the tip of the long gun in the window so of course we froze! Can you imagine my fear at that moment! Gawd, it was scary. I told my husband that next time we see those darn cars, we just stay where we are. We have 3 kids who might lose their parents just because some people think they own the road! So one time when I heard the news about this movie star who used a siren on his car and was apprehended, I rejoiced! And I applaud our law enforcers who have the guts to flag down these vehicles despite the risk to their life and career should they try and apprehend a well-connected politician or his kin!

Litratong Pinoy: Hapunan

At ang suka namin na sawsawan, to die for, ika nga!

At may side kwento pa pala ako. Hi hi hi!

Another Entrecard Folly

First, it was the paid ads, now, its taking the credits off the blog site owner. One more folly like this and that entrecard widget will be off my blog! It does feel like they are penalizing bloggers for the enthusiasm they have shown towards EC dropping. I thought that was the original idea!

In an email regarding bloated EC credits, Cindy Ung said:

We have noticed that the total number of Entrecard credits in the system has grown rapidly. This has been due to the fact that more credits are being created than credits are leaving the system. If this inflation continues, Entrecard credits will be worth less and less. To ensure a stable credit economy and reduce the outstanding credits, Entrecard will no longer give Entrecard credits to the person receiving a drop. In other words, instead of awarding 2 credits for each drop (one to the dropper and one to the blog site owner), only 1 credit will be given to the dropper. This change will be effective September 1, 2009 and will last until further notice.

Just one more folly, and I am really taking that widget off! Like many blogging gurus have said time and time again, if it doesn't work, just take it out. And I might. Just one more, and strike three, EC, you're out!

How Old is Old?

How old is old? That is the question that Cathara wants to ask on her 25th birthday. I am now XXXII, and since I have always looked older than than my age, it has never quite bothered me. I mean, I may look old, but I am having so much fun, it really doesn't matter! Old for me is when I have lost my zest for life, or have lost my purpose. When you think that there is nothing left for you to do, and you don't want to do anything new, then you are old. Boo!So Cathara, 25 is never old. It is as young as you want to be! I suggest that now that you are 25, why not make a list of 25 new things to do before you turn 26? Now, that will make your 25th year very challenging, fun-filled and unforgettable!!!

Litratong Pinoy:Merienda

Merienda ba ika mo? E di, banana cue!

Heto ang aming paboritong merienda tuwing weekends, ang banana cue. Minsan, kapag merong camote cue or turon, mas maganda.

Trisha Bonoan-David: A Face You Won't Forget

I chaperon my son last Thursday to a field trip and from San Juan going to Boom na Boom in Pasay, we passed by Sta Mesa. Looking out the window, I saw a face I wont forget. I wont forget because her face is pasted in every street from Sta Mesa to Altura to Pureza! Its no other than Trisha Bonoan-David!

Then yesterday, we went to Quiapo from Galas. Looking out the jeepney, of course, its her again, the one and only pretty congresswoman of that district in Manila. She has all of these projects, and her name and face are all over the place. I just wonder who pays for all these, is it her personal money or are the taxpayers paying for her name and face to be seen in every corner of her district?

Come to think of it, no voter will be able to forget her name and her face because its all over the place. And elections are just around the corner. I wonder why nobody has challenged her about these posters before? Maybe her constituents love her pretty face and its part of a beautification campaign? Good thing I am not from her district, otherwise she has already lost my vote because of this blatant publicity stunt!

Look at What I Found In The Mail!

This is a reminder to go out and register for the coming elections. Nice public service, I said, as my sister is now 17 and will be eligible to vote in May. But it feels like a Joy Belmonte campaign leaflet and it does look like a Joy Belmonte campaign leaflet, so it must be a Joy Belmonte campaign leaflet.

Now, here is the other side of the leaflet:

It says here Joy Belmonte's various position in several Quezon City foundations and her family and educational background. Now, the only words missing here are: Vote Joy Belmonte for So and So and this will be a campaign leaflet. And its colored too! I wonder if any taxpayer's money was used to print this thing. It has the face of our incumbent Vice Mayor Herbert Bautista. Who are the members of Joy Belmonte Volunteers Movement? Are Herbert and Joy the candidates for Mayor and Vice in QC? Hmm. The signs of the election to come are really upon us, and not just on Tv!

Michael Jackson Will Be Finally Laid To Rest

Michael Jackson will be finally laid to rest. This is according to news reports yesterday. According to the report, his remains will be buried at the Glendale Forest Lawn Cemetery, on a private ceremony. His burial will be on August 29, his 51st birthday.

He died last June 25 and will be buried 66 days later. Still the cause of his "cardiac arrest" remains unclear. While Michael's life has been marked with controversy, it's finally time to give his body the proper resting place it deserve. And this time, the decision to make it a private ceremony is only proper. It is time to give him the privacy that eludes him his entire life.

Pacquiao as Peace Negotiator?!?

Manny Pacquiao as peace negotiator? Can you believe our esteemed lawmakers? Are our military so lacking in skill that thay have to bring in Pacquiao as negotiator? Besides, Manny does not negotiate, he throw punches! And why do we have to pander to those criminals anyway? They are not idealists who are fighting for a right, rather they are terrorists! I really wish that a lasting solution to finally bring peace to Mindanao, and to even suggest to bring a civilian, however popular and beloved by even those MILF and Abu Sayyaf, is insane. It is time to seriously look into the policy of our government and stop these nonsense.

This time I do not agree with Aling Dionisia that she will just let Manny decide. If I were Manny's mother, I will strongly criticize these people for not doing their job properly and trying to score pogi points by dragging my son's name in this affair. Manny may feel that it is his duty to contribute something, like Robin Padilla, but I will advise him to let the experts do their job and not let himself be used.

Naku talaga, wala na ba silang maisip na ibang solusyon? Sus!

So Much To Be Thankful For

While writing this, I stole a glance towards my husband, who after hearing me said I did the work of two people today and am so bone tired, volunteered to iron the kid's uniform for tomorrow. That is just one reason to be thankful today, but it is already so much more than other people have.

And while other people only wish to sleep and wake up with their family beside them, I am so blessed to have them around me, just a hug and a kiss away. And I am so eagerly waiting for what tomorrow has to offer.

I am off to bed now, with a gratitude and peace filled heart.

Will Darna Fly High?

We watched Darna's pilot showing and we haven't missed any episode this week. In my household, that is a good sign. A very good sign if you will consider that this week is exams week, and we rarely allow TV during this time. The kids study early and are ready for dinner by the time Darna is airing. And unlike the previous shows like Gagambino and most especially Zorro, the kids have not lost interest yet. They are fascinated by Iwa Motto as Valentina and Paolo Contis as Cobra. The special effects on Paolo needs a lot of improvement, but Iwa's snake hair is somewhat believable. As for Marian as Darna, I am reserving judgment until after I have seen more. I can't remember the official theme song, or is it Kamikaze's Narda? That one is okay, as it is forever stuck in my head.

The only other telebabd show we enjoy in Kapuso is Adik Sa yo, and only because Jenica Garcia. But this is too late for the kids to watch so they only watch it during Fridays and holidays. Anyway, I just hope that Darna does not disappoint in the coming days so we have something to watch after the news.

Erap, Tatakbo Pa!

Have you seen Former President Joseph Estrada's Arthro commercial? Allow me to share here:

I dont want to take this seriously but I cant help thinking why these people would stoop so low just to give "subliminal" message to the public. And I have a bad feeling that a lot of people are buying this. Oh well, lets just hope that when Erap does run, it would be just as a form of exercise and not for public office!

Cory As Hero? Yes!

I support the nation's call to make President Corazon Aquino as a national hero. If the show of gratitude and love for her this past few days is any indication, then she indeed deserve the honor.

I was looking at this document entitled "Selection and Proclamation of National Heroes and Laws Honoring Filipino Historical Figures" from the National Commission for Culture and the Arts and these are the criterias listed for National Heroes:

1. Heroes are those who have a concept of nation and thereafter aspire and struggle for the nation’s freedom. Our own struggle for freedom was begun by Bonifacio and finished by Aguinaldo, the latter formally declaring the revolution’s success. In reality, however, a revolution has no end. Revolutions are only the beginning. One cannot aspire to be free only to sink back into bondage.

2. Heroes are those who define and contribute to a system or life of freedom and order for a nation. Freedom without order will only lead to anarchy. Therefore, heroes are those who make the nation’s constitution and laws, such as Mabini and Recto. To the latter, constitutions are only the beginning, for it is the people living under the constitution that truly constitute a nation.

3. Heroes are those who contribute to the quality of life and destiny of a nation. (As defined by Dr. Onofre D. Corpuz)

Based on the above criteria, Cory can indeed be made a National Hero. If there is one thing I learned during the nation's grief for her death, her life of service was characterized by her righteousness and simplicity. These are just two traits that are sorely lacking with our current public officials. I wish that in her death, our public officials will see fit to honor her legacy by living by her example. That is a tall order indeed, but making her a national hero will make it easier for the people to realize that it is possible to be just that.

Steer Your Car to Safety

If you were to ask me the most important parts of a car, it would be the brake and the steering. These two makes driving safe and enjoyable. Can you imagine driving with faulty steering? You shouldn't even imagine it, let alone do it. It could very well be a recipe for disaster. As car owners, we should always remember that it is our responsibility to make sure that our car steering is working properly. If you own a BMW and need bmw steering rack, you can check out Car Steering Wholesale for the best deals, lowest price and warranty for all your steering needs. They can get you dealer parts and the best prices, free shipping included!

Cory's Legacy: Democracy!

If there is one song that would sum up Cory's legacy to this country, it would be this, "Handog ng Pilipino sa Mundo."

Here are the lyrics of the song:

Handog Ng Pilipino Sa Mundo
Jim Paredes for EDSA1986 People Power Revolution

'Di na 'ko papayag mawala ka muli.
'Di na 'ko papayag na muli mabawi,
Ating kalayaan kay tagal natin mithi.
'Di na papayagang mabawi muli.

Magkakapit-bisig libo-libong tao.
Kay sarap palang maging Pilipino.
Sama-sama iisa ang adhikain.
Kelan man 'di na paalipin.

Ref:
Handog ng Pilipino sa mundo,
Mapayapang paraang pagbabago.
Katotohanan, kalayaan, katarungan
Ay kayang makamit na walang dahas.
Basta't magkaisa tayong lahat.

Masdan ang nagaganap sa aming bayan.
Nagkasama ng mahirap at mayaman.
Kapit-bisig madre, pari, at sundalo.
Naging Langit itong bahagi ng mundo.

Huwag muling payagang umiral ang dilim.
Tinig ng bawat tao'y bigyan ng pansin.
Magkakapatid lahat sa Panginoon.
Ito'y lagi nating tatandaan.
(repeat refrain two times)

Coda:
Mapayapang paraang pagbabago.
Katotohanan, kalayaan, katarungan.
Ay kayang makamit na walang dahas.
Basta't magkaisa tayong lahat!
