Litratong Pinoy: Amoy

Incoming Typhoon Santi

I got this from a forwarded email (and verified at Barrio Siete)that typhoon Santi (with international name Mirinae) is expected to make a landfall in the country on Friday, October 30. I know better than to sow panic and all, but I can't help but be scared once again! We had a Pepeng scare on a Friday, and here is Santi again threatening us again this weekend!

But since we cannot do anything about the weather, we just have to be prepared. And here is my checklist of things to prepare for this typhoon:

1. Candles, matches, batteries and flashlights in case of brownouts.
2. Biscuits, noodles and easy to prepare food.
3. Drinking water
4. Change of clothes, good for one for each of us already packed in a bag.
5. Money
6. Important documents in a water-proof container (just in case there is flooding again).

These are just some of the things that I have prepared already since Ondoy. We were complacent before that the flood will not rise above our street, only to wade on chest-deep flood. With this incoming typhoon Santi, or the next one, we will always prepare for the worst.

I have been feeling kind of low lately. I don't know why but I cant seem to get out of this. Anyway, here is a picture I took in Bohol last year and I just kind of like it right now. I know exactly how this boat feels.

My kids are avid Pokemon fans, but I cannot for the life of me, remember any of their names. And here is my son with the only Pokemon known to his (old and outdated) mother, Pikachu!

Wait, I know another Pokemon. The turtle one is I think named Squirtle. And the only reason why I knew him is because my younger son has a turtle for a pillow and he named him Squirtle. Ha ha, but as for the other ones, I am completely lost.

Is it My Turn with the Remote Yet?

Have you asked yourself recently when it is your turn to hold the remote? Chances are, whenever it's your turn, not one show is on. And its bound to happen, because most of the time, the only chance you've got is when the kids are asleep and your husband has watched his favorite games. But what if you can schedule your family time around the shows you want? Then don't you think you can wield the power of the remote control then? That's what I discovered when found out about Charter on Demand!

Ondemand

Now that I can schedule the shows I want, especially those HD ones. I can now schedule a family bonding time at the comfort of my home. No more waiting in line in movie houses with screaming and unruly kids. Now, I can watch a movie in peace and comfort even while preparing our favorite snacks. And that is all because I get to choose from over 6,000 movies and shows and not miss a single one of my favorite series. And if my kids want their cartoons as a reward for doing their homework on time, I can just wield my magic over the remote. And the kids love me for it! So if you want the same power over the remote control, learn more at charter.net/ondemand. You can also check out what's happening and get updates and fun extras on Charter’s Facebook page.

Lazy on a Saturday

Its almost noon but I have not even started any of the chores I usually do on a Saturday. I feel so lazy, even plugging this laptop is such a chore. So I am here, sitting on our new sofa (the old one had to be discarded after the flood) and typing, trying to chase the laziness away.

My kids have school today and I should have had more uninterrupted time to clean house, do the laundry and make sense of all the mess. But I am just too lazyyyyyyyy today, I don't know why. Hmm, should I get back to bed and hopefully wake up fully charged? But in this heat

Friday Quotes: Success

A person is a success if they get up in the morning and gets to bed at night and in between does what he wants to do.
by Bob Dylan.

I love this quote! Just as long as you are happy with what you are doing, then you are already successful. You don't need to aspire to have lots of money, as long as you love what you are doing.

Pretty As A Butterfly

I was looking through the pictures on my computer when I saw this, and I just had to share it to you. I am feeling kind of sad lately, maybe because recent events have made me lose my balance, but seeing this butterfly made me feel at peace.

I just wish we would all take care of nature so that we wont be victims of our own folly. Just a view of this pretty and harmless creature can be very soothing to our emotions and I hope it does bring you the peace that I felt.

This is called a Skeleton Bike. It shows you how your muscles and joints move when you are riding a bicycle. We saw this at the Science Discovery Center during my son's field trip. I wanted to try it, but my son wouldn't let me go near it. Hay!

Of course, just because you are a chaperon doesn't mean you don't get to enjoy the field trip, right?

I was in full fun mode taking these life-sized images of my favorite cartoons. He he!

Have fun with other Mellow Yellow entries here!

Life is Too Short

During the typhoon, we didn't eat dinner so we only missed one meal. But since then, I haven't been watching what I eat, nor have I time for exercise. At the moment, I feel that I am too vain and shallow to think of my diet, when other people are thinking of where to get their next meal. Did you know that the first thing I did when I went back to the office after being on leave for several days was to eat a burger meal with up sized drinks and fries, and Chippy with iced cold coke?

I think I will only get my diet and exercise groove back once we are done with cleaning up the other house. Otherwise, life is too short for diet and exercise, he he.

Litratong Pinoy: Maagap

Calling Manila Water!

This is mud inside my house and up to know we are not done shoveling it out of the house despite the help from friends. You know why it is so difficult? Because up to now, we don't have water supply yet!

We took out the meter, like most of the residents are doing, to tap at the main water pipe. Unfortunately, we didn't even see a drop. Trucks of Manila Water are already in the village, maybe doing some repair works already, but I am hoping that they will do a much better and faster job. Almost 3 weeks after the Typhoon, we are still waiting for Manila Water to clean up its act!

Tracking Computer Usage

If I am a business owner and I spend for company resources, it would help me a lot if I know how my employees are using these resources. I will be able to know by activity tracking how this usage correlates to the productivity of my staff. This will enable me to gauge performance against the computer applications that they use and offer more incentives. If I am the employee, I will not take it against my employer that he feels the need to track my computer usage, rather see it as a concrete proof of how my performance is being pitted against my productivity. It means that here is more chance for me to be rewarded because a tracking system is present.

I Love Rapid Share!

I am not tech savvy. My kids know more about the internet more than I do. And when I need some documents or files for my research, I sometimes have to ask for their help in looking for it. But not anymore, thanks to Rapidshare Search! It makes searching for any files online such a breeze, even for a newbie like me. All I have to do now is to type the name of the file I need, and I am led to so may possibilities. The good thing about apid4me is its updated daily, so I am sure to find the latest articles I need. I am now moving to downloading songs and movies, and this time, I don't need to ask for my kid's help, making me such tech-savvy mom!

Two weeks and 2 days after Typhoon Ondoy, our house in Dela Costa Homes in Montalban is still covered in mud. Our neighbors are slowly re-building their lives, and discarding most of their muddy belongings.

I wonder how the girl who owns this feels?

I am still trying to get my blogging-groove back. After having hit by Ondoy in two houses, in Quezon City and in Montalban, I still can't concentrate much on blogging.

"The rain has stopped, the storm has passed.
Look at all the colors, now the sun's here at last!"

The picture above was taken at a resort in Montalban, Rizal which is one of the most ravaged places because of the recent flooding. I wonder how the resort has fared?

But it is still fun to look at the bright and yellow ide of things this Mellow Yellow Monday!

Help Jack On His Quest!

Halloween Adventure - Jacks Quest

Jack is on a quest and he needs your help! He is looking for the best Halloween story in three categories. You can send in your best Halloween Adventure in Stories, Videos or Pictures! Jack will ask America to vote for the best adventure and the chosen one gets to win huge prizes! I even joined and shared my story of how we turned an Ifugao native costume into a scary creature. That is because my son wanted to join a Halloween contest the night before the contest itself, leaving me with no choice but to convert whatever costume I can find into a scary one! That is why, even though it is still 26 days before halloween, I am telling everybody to buy Halloween costumes online or in a halloween store near you! You really never know when you might need one. Although it was really a Halloween Adventure (and a nice entry to Jack's Quest), I still think that its better to be prepared! So if you have a Halloween Adventure to share, help Jack on his Quest! You may end up sharing the best story, picture or video and being chosen as the best! Help Jack on this Halloween Adventure Quest! So please vote for my story by clicking on the link above.

Poor Cars

You know what, after seeing the state of the poor cars after Typhoon Ondoy, I was happy that we have sold our car. That was one less thing to worry about for me during the flooding. But now that things are somewhat back to normal, I find that looking for used cars is actually a good idea. I think that if we had a car during the flooding, I would have moved it to higher ground and therefore would have sought a temporary and safer residence. But oh those poor cars! But I still want one now so I am asking my husband to check out Buy Your Car UK. If I find something I like, I just might buy me a used car!

Make Use of Business Listings

Have you ever wondered why you get business calls that just irritate the hell out of you? People who calls you in the worst hour that you can get them, and offering you things that you absolutely don't need? Most probably, these companies do not have business listings that are tailored to their company's needs. What then if you are a business owner? Would you want to waste you resources to people who really have no need for your business? It is just a waste of time, personnel, energy and all-around costs, with no return in sight. It pays to have a business listing that targets your client; those that want to hear what you have to say and offer. This is what you call a win-win situation for everybody. But of course, make sure that the business listings that you will get came from a reputable company that uses the most up to date methods of lead generation and fits your marketing strategy. It has to be accurate and comprehensive. In this changing business environment, it pays to invest in business listings to get ahead of the competition. It may actually spell the success or failure of your business! So if you need all the help that you can, make sure that you get the help that you can actually use.

Friday Quotes: HOPE

“When things are bad, we take comfort in the thought that they could always be worse. And when they are, we find hope in the thought that things are so bad they have to get better."

At this time of crisis, we could all use some hope. Let us all continue to pray for those affected by the typhoon and hope that "Pepeng" will not be as bad as the last one. Let us keep in mind that we Filipinos are one of the most resilient people in the world, and despite this tragedy, we can still find kindness and hope in each one of us.
