Divisoria 2013

Divisoria is a wonderful place, full of things that will make you forget your budget, hahaha.  You will curse everybody who decides to go there the same day that you did because it seems everybody in the metro was there! Yep, I think half of the city population was in Divisoria if you can see the pictures I took below.   Traffic was horrible that we had to walk from Avenida to 999 mall, and back! And why do we do it? For the savings of course! Good quality blouses and shirts can be bought for as low as P100 each, depending on how good you are at haggling. Shoes and bags are cheap as well! But of course, you have to be very desperate to brave the madness, hahahah!
Of course, you also get to see this things that make going to Divisoria a unique experience.  And yep, I am done shopping for the year!

Philippine Barangay Election

The barangay election is scheduled this coming October 28, and the campaign is now in full swing.  When I bought our early morning pandesal, I was surprised to see the above.  Yes, they own the bakery.  And yes, he was there this morning to tell me "bahala ka na dyan ha", while pointing to the pandesal. Okay. I will vote for this guy. Very enterprising, and I am sure he didn't spend more than P5 for this, which is the allotted budget for each voter.

Rainy Day Comfort Food

My mom, who we lovingly called Inay, is a great cook.  She is actually the reason why my diet is always failing, hahaha.  I cannot say no to her cooking, and she delights in feeding me! Especially when it is cold and raining, her Sopas and Lugaw are such a hit.  They are my comfort food and every time I eat them, I am enveloped in the heat of the soup, and the love of my Inay. I wish I can cook as good as her, but since I have no sense of smell, I know I can never be as good as her.

Little Store On the Hill

The best Chinese lumpia I have ever had! That is how I would describe the lumpia from Little Store in San Juan.  I was able to try it first when my chinese friend in the office asked us if we wanted to order.  It is her usual food at the office where she keeps maybe 4 pieces frozen in our freezer.  She would just heat it up for lunch.  So I was curious, and I ordered 2, and I was hooked! Since then, we would always beg her to go there and buy for us, hahaha!
So last week, my husband and I went to Little Baguio and to look for the store.  It is a quaint little store, with a grocery in front, and the simple dining area tucked inside.  Of course, I ordered the lumpia and made my husband try it too! He was immediately a lumpia-convert, hahaha! We also ordered this Maki soup, and I ordered 2 more lumpias to go.  The lumpia costs only P85, and since it was near their 8pm closing time, we got a 20% discount! Not bad, huh! We will go back and try their other dishes, that's for sure!

Little Store on the Hill is located at Little Baguio in San Juan.

TGI Friday's Jack Daniel's Burger

We try to eat out once every payday at the office and for last payday, we decided to have lunch at Friday's.  I wanted some burger. And what a burger it was!  This mother was like 1,300 calories, but it was all worth it!
It is as yummy as it looks!  This goes to my list of food that I would have to eat again before I die, hahaha!

I might tell you about it, hahaha.

Pag Diet Ako, Ganito...

Ang daming pagkain! Kala mo may panic buying! From the top, which is a huge loaf of bread from Pan De Amerikana, and the caramel sundae and apple pie from McDo, and the maja from the meriende peddler here at the office and the huge ensyamada from Pan De Amerikana, this doesn't feel like a diet na!  (Who am I kidding anyway?)

No thanks sa magulong weather.
2. Sabi ko diet ako. Umpisa un kahapon.  No rice the whole day.
6. Tinamad na naman akong mag-gym. Oh well, what else is new.

May Tanong Ako

Baka nga their needs are greater than mine.

Hayyyyyyyyyyyy!

I Miss Running!

I miss running! These are just some of the fun runs I joined early this year, before I went ahead and enroll on Sunday classes. And despite going to the gym and running 5KM daily, its still different when you are out there and having fun with your friends.  I miss running! Hope to get to join one again soon!

Tapsi ni Vivian, Marikina City

We went to a wake one Friday night, and as Filipino customs go, we had to stop someplace before heading home.  And we were hungry because of the traffic, and we were craving for some Pinoy food.  We ended up at Tapsi ni Vivian in Marikina as one friend said their tapsilog was really good.  And you know what, it was indeed good! The tapa was just right, tender and tasty.  The bulalo on the other hand was just okay, not exemplary.  The soup was great, but there was too little meat on the bones (eh, bulalo nga e, hahaha). Anyway, I have to tell my husband that we should eat here sometime.

Tapsi ni Vivian is located at Gil Fernandez Ave, Marikina, near Sta Lucia Mall.

An Accident Waiting To Happen?

an accident waiting to happen?

I took this photo from the 44th floor of the building where I am working.  It shows what appears to be a prefabricated wall hanging on a crane right above a parking area full of cars! I saw this initially posted on the Facebook wall of one of the bosses in my building last July 30, where it was in their full view while they were having a meeting.  And after almost a week, it is still there. Is it a concrete wall hanging over a parking lot full of cars or is it a Styrofoam of some sort just hanging harmlessly there? I hope to God its the latter!

Things I Miss Doing

These are the things that I miss doing the most on weekends: hanging out with my husband and kids, running and climbing mountains! Wahhh! Since classes for my MBA started last June, I feel as though I don't have enough time on my hands. I know that some sacrifices have to be made if I want to reach my dreams, but sometimes, when I juggle work, motherhood and schooling and I get so tired, I would think why I am doing this?! And a little voice in my head would keep on nagging me and say, "why ever not?" :) Indeed.

Wensha Spa Antipolo: A Review

My friends and I availed of the Metrodeal promo of Wensha for P499 for a 6-hour spa treatment of either body massage or foot massage and use of facilities such as the hot or cold jacuzzi, steam sauna and dry sauna, and the buffet. Upon arrival, we presented the voucher at the counter and we were given a locker key, and we deposited our shoes and we were issued slippers (which were oily and slippery).  Then we went to the locker area to change into our robes. We were each given a robe and a towel.  After changing to have our names listed down for the massage, and then we went up to have dinner.  Dinner was a sad affair.  They only had fried chicken, fried fish fillet and adobo. There was a hot pot, but the meat was not available.  The meat for the barbecue was also missing, as well as the dressing for the salad (which consist of carrots, cucumber, lettuce and the lumpy dressing).  We just sampled the food, and then went down to the jacuzzi area.  Of course, girls and boys go to separate rooms.  We had to strip down and shower before we can get to the jacuzzi, and sauna.  The facilities are okay, but nothing spectacular.  We went there on a Friday so there was a good number of people but it was manageable.  We stayed for more than an hour, then showered and changed back into our robes for the massage.  By the way, we only had one towel so it was too wet when it was time to shower! The massage was great actually. After the massage, the therapists gave each one of us an envelope for the tip that we were to pay at the counter before we check out.  After the massage, we changed back into our clothes, and head back to the dining area for some more food.  There was meat this time for the hotpot (though it was mostly the fat portion!) The drinks were unlimited, but they only had the Antonov drinks available! Duh! The barbecue meat was also available, but again it was mostly fat.  Anyway, we had a great time because we were together and the experience was quiet new for all of us, but it was not something that we wanted to do again.

And by the way, we only had three vouchers with us, but they do offer gift cheque for P500 for the same service.  Hmmm, so Metrodeal does not really guarantee the best deal after all.

2014 Travels Plans! Piso Fare Galore!

People at the office are going crazy making travel plans for 2014, thanks to Cebu Pacific's Piso Fare. Selling period is from now until seats last, and travel period is January 1 to June 30, 2014.  I am not booking any trip yet, as we already have that Cambodia-Vietnam trip in February 2014, and the planned Ilocos or Baguio trip during the summer break.  But to all of you out there who have yet to make plans, check out the seat sale now!

Dad's Crossover Buffet Deal from Metrodeal

We paid P549 for the discounted Metrodeal voucher to avail of Dad's Crossover Buffet. And it was okay.  The food was okay, as always, but really nothing extraordinary like the steak in Crowne Plaza or the baked goodies as Wildflour. We went home (ay back to the office pala) filled up to our throats though, hahaha! Apologies again for the crappy Blackberry photos.
Plate No. 1: Filipino Dishes
The lechon was good, as well as the Adobong Balut.  But the lumpia was nothing to write home about.
Plate No.2: Chinese and BBQ's
The tempura was okay but I had to take out some breading. The rest was okay but nothing extraordinary too.
Plate 3: Roast and steak
The roasted turkey was okay as well as the rest of the food on my third plate.  By this time, we were so full already that the desserts held not much interest except for the ice cream.  You can always have room for ice cream :)

All in all, the experience was fun, but not something that you would enjoy doing always.  A once a month or once a quarter visit is recommended so that you will never get tired of the food :)

Yabu, House of Katsu

Last week, I tried one of the restaurants that my friends have been raving about: Yabu, House of Katsu.  We went to Megamall, and ordered this Rosu 180.  I am not familiar with their menu, but this came highly recommended.
Rosu 180
The great deal was the unlimited rice and unlimited shredded cabbage. The dressing was unlimited too, hahahah! We had as much as we can, and we really, really loved it! This put a dent to my wallet at P450+ for my own meal (because I usually spend up to around P200 only when I eat out) but IT WAS WORTH IT!  Authentic Japanese dish at a reasonable price. I will come back again!

Wildflour Cafe+Bakery, Podium

Last week, because Heat won versus Lakers (or was it the other way around?) we were treated to lunch in Podium. We had a hearty lunch at Brazas, but due to my bad allergies, I didn't enjoy it very much.  But what I did enjoy was our dessert at Wildflour.  Oh men, talk about orgasmic, hahaha!  Apologies for the photo as I was using my crappy Blackberry, and obviously an injustice has been done to these pictures. But suffice it to say that they taste 100x better than they look in these photos.
Pie
The crust in the pie was just heavenly!
cinnamon
Way better than Cinnabon! Just look at the generous toppings of nuts on this one.
croissant of some sort
 Mmmmmmm, melts in your mouth!
chocolate cake
Oh and the chocolate cake was simply divine.  And this one was my favorite.  I wanted to buy some Chewy but I was so full by this time, walking was already a chore.  We will soon come back for more sinfully delicious goodies!

Blue Carabao Diner, Davao City

One of our friends who was with us in our recent Davao trip (who was doing a paper on carabao meat) told us that we have to visit this place and check out what the fuzz is all about, so we did. I had some apprehensions that they may be serving only carabao meat, and that I will not enjoy.  But I was assured that they do serve other dishes too.
The diner is located in Alvarez St in Davao City, near Magsaysay fruit stand and Chinatown.
This is Pochero, somewhat like the Tagalog nilaga, but with carabao meat, instead of beef (but they have that as well).  I tried a few bites, and found it to be good.  The meat was really tender and soft! Unfortunately, this is the only carabao dish that they serve, much to the dismay of our friend who was hoping to try other dishes.
And the adobo looks so good I had to try it too!
These beans look so fresh and crunchy so I had one as well!
And these vegetable salad, or Lato, they looked so good, I had to try them too.  I have never eaten these before but I totally loved them! Cruncy and fresh, and spicy at the same time.  A real winner!
And the best part, aside from the food being so good? It is so cheap! All of the dishes have, plus 3 orders of rice, only comes out to P181.00! Really best value for money!
The happy couple, looking so hungry, ha ha ha!
