Post It Note Tuesdays

Welcome Rainy Days!

Thank God for the rains! I know a lot of people had trouble going home last night because of the flood and traffic brought by the heavy downpour, but I just love to welcome the rainy season.  I love sleeping when its cold and can now properly say goodbye to sleepless nights because of the oppressive heat.  I know it is summer in other parts of the globe and they are eager to see the Latest Summer Fashion collection, but not me! I would rather have the rain.  Not as much the flood and the traffic, but the cool weather it brings.  Okay, let me qualify it again:  I love the rains when I am snugly indoors with my family but I hate it when it comes with a typhoon.  I hate the disruption that a typhoon brings and the fear for lives and livelihood.  But I love the rain as long as it is just cool and comfortable.  Or maybe, not the allergies that signal the rainy days!  Ha ha, I don't know too if I love the rains or not!

Eye Glasses for my Migraine

I had another migraine attack yesterday. It was so bad I felt like my lunch would come up every time I move. One side of my head felt like it was being split into half. This was by far my most painful migraine attack ever. When I got home, I put a hot compress over my eyes and lie down. I know that the reason why I had such a bad headache was my refusal to wear eye glasses. So it was my vanity that caused me this much pain, ha ha ha. I feel like laughing now, but I was close to tears last night.

I used to wear glasses but it makes me look 5 years older.  My friend Rona uploaded some pictures taken in 2007 when I was still wearing my glasses and I look so old!  I was fat, well I still am but now as fat as way back and the glasses really made me look 45.  So I stopped wearing them.  I find wearing contact lenses to be so bothersome so I don't wear them either.  It usually is not a problem but when there is too much work like yesterday and I was staring at the computer for far too long, then the migraine attacks.  I know that I have to get new eye glasses soon but I hope I can find some designs that wont make me look older.  I hope to find chic eyeglasses that are within my budget.  Ha, will go eyeglasses hunting soon!

Like My New Look?

Its been more than a year since I tinkered this blog and I am thankful to Skincorner for this wonderful template! I love it!  I am still not done tinkering the sidebars but I really like the way this has turned out. I now love green.  I just have to find out how to make the search button work and to center the widgets and then I am good. I also have to check if the feeds are working alright and all and to add more links to the sidebar.  But this really looks great!  If I am this blog, I would  feel as if I had a breast augmentation hawaii.  Yeah, that good!

Mellow Yellow Monday: Fiesta!

Here is my late Mellow Yellow Monday post because I can't find the drive where I kept my pictures. Anyway, these colorful chicks below are sold at P10 each during our Fiesta. The kids were crazy over them. Just DONT ASK how the chicks were after the kids were done with them, tsk tsk tsk.

And of course, here are some colorful balloons for the young ones as well. The vendors really had a field day!

These are just some pictures of what a fiesta in our place looks like. Check out other MYM entries!

New Ride

We recently bought on installment a motorcycle, a Kawasaki Curve. I love it and my husband love it so much that he keeps on cleaning it every second of the day, ha ha. I keep on telling him that if he keeps on scrubbing it clean, the designs will fade! I guess he is just excited on this new toy. He wants to buy accessories and stickers but I told him to keep it neat and simple. Its sometimes better that way. And besides, those things cost a lot too! But I wonder how much truck accessories would cost. I saw this chrome truck along Araneta highway just the other day and was amazed at how the owner dressed it up. It looks a lot like Optimus Prime in the Transformers movie! It was really amazing. I told my husband that if he wants to upgrade our motorcycle and make it look like that, then it is fine with me. While I like our new motorcycle just the way it is, maybe some accessories will not hurt as long as I keep my husband on check. He may get carried away, and our new ride might look like an overdressed old lady (if you can picture that in your head!).

Deaths and Funerals

These past few days, my youngest daughter has been worried sick about dying. This started when my husband said he was going to a wake and my daughter overheard. She asked his elder brother why people die and he said, everybody will eventually die. This made her worry despite my assurances. I guess kids her age really go through this process because I remember that I did. I just hope that I am able to make her understand that death is a natural process.

This incident actually made me think that we don't usually prepare for deaths and funerals the way people in other countries do. We either believe its bad luck to prepare for deaths, or we just leave it to those we will leave behind to take care of the gory details. Me, I told my husband that I prefer cremation over the traditional burial because I want to be at home where my kids can still be reminded that I lived and loved them. I guess a funeral agent can come and talk to me as I am open to these ideas. I told my mother that I will get a funeral plan for her and I think she was offended! I think she felt I wanted her to die already when the truth is I cannot bear to think it. But I just want one less detail to worry about when the inevitable time comes. Oh well, we will all die anyway, no matter what I tell my daughter.

What Will You Do If You Win $100?

Levy asked us to answer the question "What will you do with $100?" as part of the mechanics of her Thanksgiving contest and here is my plan.

I am going to Boracay this July 14-17 with my husband Noel, kids Drexelle, Danniel and Denise, my mother Mila and sister Kris and mother-in law, Caridad. That is a total of 8 people: 6 adults and 2 kids.
Unfortunatley, this is going to be a budget trip. We have only recently enrolled 3 kids and my sister. There are books, supplies and uniforms to buy and we have just finished(not finished, finished) building our house last May so money is a little scarce. Truth be told, we have already asked the kids if they want to go ahead with the trip or not. Though they said its okay not to go Boracay anymore, my husband and I decided to go ahead with it and just see what we can do budget-wise. Now, I am looking for the cheapest accommodations (but comfortable, of course) I can find for all of us. We will just take a van from the Kalibo airport to Caticlan and charge the additional travel to experience, he he. I will cut cost as much as I can, but I want them to experience the gastronomic experience that Boracay has to offer. I want them to experience a buffet lunch or dinner at a restaurant of their choice. I want to have our meal chosen fresh and cooked with us watching right there at the Talipapa. I want them to taste the fruit shakes that Boracay is also famous for. I want them to drink fresh buco juice while snorkeling or island hopping. In short, I want this trip to be memorable not just for the wonderful white beach, but for the wonderful gastronomic experiences as well. The family that eats together, stays together as my mother is fond of saying, so should I win the $100, my family will surely get to eat a lot in Boracay!

So Levy, please let me win already! You wouldn't want these kids to starve, would you?

And you wouldnt like it when your mother and mother-in law fight over a slice of cake, right so I have to make sure that there is enough food for them, ha ha!

My husband and I promise to give you a kiss for your generosity. A sweet kiss like this one!

And my sister sends her regard too (you know what that two-sign means because I would love to know), ha ha!
So, there. I would spend the $100 in food for our Boracay trip in July. If you like this post, please head over to Levy, and tell her to make me win already. Or better yet, join here awesome contest!

One of my silliest dreams as a kid was to be able to touch and play in the snow. Now as an adult, I still cherish the dream, but hopefully with my kids, playing in the snow. Last night, while watching the sports channel, my eldest son saw this special feature about Olympics snowboarding and he was amazed and so was I. We have never even had a chance to try ice skating in the malls here and here are experts snowboarding effortlessly! He was saying that since he knows how to skate and he rides his wave board really well, then he can do snowboarding with no need for practice! He can be as good as those on TV. As much as I was happy about his enthusiasm, I was already mentally thinking about cost of snowboards, particularly the Burton snowboards which his cousins in California are using. But that was before I realized that we can only do ice skating here in the country! I didn't want to dampen his excitement so I refrained from reminding him that. I am sure he will be as excited about another sport soon enough. And it would be remiss of me not to allow him to dream about something I dreamed of as a child.

Litratong Pinoy: Pag-asa

Ang bawat umaga daw ay may dalang bagong pag-asa, kung kaya't anuman ang nangyari, ay maaring muling magsimula pagsikat ng araw.

Blogging to the Next Level

I am more of a reader than a writer and so my friends were surprised when I told them I maintain four blogs. I have one for parenting, another for books, yet another to document the building of our dream house and this blog, which is a collection of reviews, memes and anything interesting that I care to share. And I do earn a little from these blogs. Not big enough to replace my income from my regular job, but okay for a passive income. But now that all my kids will be in school and their needs have increased, I think I need to take blogging to the next level! I have always used Blogger because I have no time to learn about other blogging platforms but if I am to take this blogging to the next level, I must try webhosting. I know that there are some web hosts out there for novice bloggers like me, who only wish to write good content and not be bothered with the admin and technical side of blogging. I need to read more and compare prices and reviews and decide on which one can really give me the benefits and the functions that I need. I think it is really time to get serious with blogging and the first step would be to look for the best web host. If you have any recommendations, please let me know.

Disable Does Not Mean Unable

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of NMEDA. All opinions are 100% mine.

People with disability do not need our pity. They need our help and understanding. Just because they are disabled or specially-able, does not mean that they cannot do anything. It means they can still do things, even if differently. Take driving, for example. If you are the parent or the caregiver of a disabled person, it would mean a lot to you if you can move your child around with as much dignity as possible. It would mean a lot more if he learns to drive himself with a specially-designed vehicle. And that is where NMEDA serves a great purpose. They are an association of that advocates safe driving and equipments for disabled people. Their dealers and members adhere to the Assurance Program or QAP. QAP is the accreditation program for the mobility equipment industry and it means that a member dealer who is QAP accredited follows guidelines and recommended practices for the well-being of people with disability. So if you need to have a vehicle fitted for the use of your disabled family members or relatives, be sure to look for a NMEDA qualified dealer who can assist you in your area. It will never do to buy second hand vehicles that are not specifically designed for an individual because it is not tailor-fit for his needs and abilities. Remeber, a NMEDA dealer can help get your loved ones gain his independence back by giving him the chance to drive on his own or be moved around with dignity.

Mellow Yellow Monday: Flame Eater

This was taken by my nephew JR, yesterday during our fiesta. These group of gay dancers were dancing to the beat of the drums and doing a very good show of flame eating, to the delight of the crowd. The only downside is that you have to give them money before their death-defying performance!

Wednesday Happy Thoughts

Its the middle of the week and time to count our blessings! So here are some things that made me happy this week:
1. Cebu Pacific for their ticket sale. We know have tickets to Coron for October!
2. 2 gb flash drive from Rey Panes. Salamat!
3. Beatles playing on my laptop. Never fail to make me shake my head and sing-along.
4. KFC lunch with office buddies, diet be damned.
5. Pitsi-pitsi and pancit bihon. Need I say more?
6. The 3 lbs I lost last week. But after items #4 and 5, I think I gained them back again.
7. My own paperback of the 7th Harry Potter book. It is really different reading and holding the book with your bare hands.
8. New lcd monitor for the home computer. And upgraded memory too.
9. The bike for my eldest son.
10. Planning for the July Boracay trip with the family.

Here are just some of the reasons why I am thankful and happy! To know how this meme started, check this out.

Refurbished Phone

What is a refurbished phone? I was told just now that the phone I will be getting as a replacement for my company phone is not brand new. I wonder if this okay? Of course, there is nothing I can do about a company policy and I only hope that a refurbished phone works just as well. If it doesn't, then I should probably just buy a new one. Phones are so cheap nowadays anyway.

I wanted to ask some friends on how phone systems work in their offices so I can find out if it is worth getting a personal postpaid line. Or maybe just get a land line that is bundled with an Internet service.

But back to refurbished phones, my friend just told me that they are defective units that were sent back for repair, but rather used for promotions and the likes and then sent to the market again for re-sale. If that is the case, then they should be okay.
