A Do It Yourself Weekend

Last weekend was a 3-day vacation for us. But since we had no plans to go on a trip, it became a Do-It-Yourself weekend! And we were very productive indeed! We spray-painted our old refrigerator, made a table and chair and re-painted the shelves. If we had known a good, Residential HVAC I am sure we would have installed a new one because we were on a roll! It was a fun and enjoyable weekend indeed.

My husband made this table and the chair at the side from scrap wood from a refurbished cabinet from my mother in law's house. We plan to bring it to our house in Montalban once we have it painted. The white paint is just the first coating.

This shelves below came with the house we are renting and has seen better days. We thought that a new coat of paint will give it its glory back and it did!

This refrigerator used to be colored cream and it looks old and dirty. A silver coat of spray paint made it look brand new!

So it was really a very productive weekend for us and our house looked a little less cluttered and a lot like new! I hope that we can do something like this again next time! So, how was your weekend?

Friday Quotes

In light of all things happening in the world, I think this simple quote is very apt:

It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice!
Please remember that you will always be remembered for your actions and not by your title and positions.

Bosay Resort, Antipolo City

We were at Bosay Resort in Antipolo City last Saturday. The picture below was taken by my husband's nephew, Jay-R. For the full review of the resort, check out my other blog, To be, to be. Tutubi.
Here are some pictures of the resort. This is located at the heart of the resort, between the kiddie pools, turtle pools and therapy pool. It is perfect for picture-taking!

And who can resist climbing that dinosaur? That is Jay-R, the photographer.

My kids taking a pose with one of the smaller dinosaurs when we were readying to go home. See how burned they were?

The clubhouse is spacious and could be used for a big reception. Its is located farther up the resort and near the Olympic pool and disco pool which we didn't get to try because of the dress code. The kids didn't miss those pools anyway because they were too happy with the kiddie pool and slide.
The snake and dinousaur was at the entrance to the disco pool clubhouse. No group pictures here since I was walking alone to burn the calorie off when I took these pictures.

The resort is very clean, there are enough wash areas, shower rooms, grills and cottages. I just dont know how it is during summer months and peak seasons.

Bosay Resort, Antipolo City
Rates: P150 for adult and P110 for kids (4-feet below)
Location: Near Galang/Roco Farm Marigman Road, Brgy. San Roque, Antipolo City, Philippines
How to get there:

Laptop Repairs, Anyone?

They said I am weird for naming my gadgets but I like doing it because I used my hard-earned money buying them. Giving them names make them more special and I take even better care of them. My netbook is Liway, my external hard drive is Diwa, my camera is Kinang and my Samsung phone is Simang. They have no special meanings, but they create a special bond! So when I need laptop repairs, or note book repairs, I am a wreck! Imagine a mother with sick children, now that is me with a defective gadget. When I found out about San Diego PC Help I was so happy because it was like having your pediatrician on speed dial! They offer quick, reliable and affordable PC repairs at your finger tips. They can solve all your PC problems with their professionals who are expert on the field. I also remember pulling my hair in despair when my computer at home crashed and I lost all the pictures I have collected for years. Never mind the files which I can always scan again. If I have only found out about them earlier, I know that they can help me recover those pictures! Anyway, now that I know about them, I need not worry as much as I did before whenever it comes to laptop repairs. Now, if only I can find a good company that offers loan modification then I ca have a peaceful day!

Mellow Yellow Monday: Swimming

My kids love the water so much and usually, special occasions in our family are celebrated with a swimming party. We were at Bosay Resort last Saturday to celebrate my mother-in-law's 62nd birthday and the kids had a blast!

These are my kids with some of their cousins and they look they are really having the best time!

Friday Quotes: Commitment

"Commitment is what transforms a promise into reality. It is the words that speak boldly of your intentions, and it is the actions that speak louder than the words. It is making the time when there is none – coming through time after time after time, year after year after year. Commitment is the stuff character is made of, the power to change the face of things. It is the daily triumph of integrity over skepticism."
This was on a poster in my room when I was in college. I bought the poster from National Bookstore. I just found out now from an Internet search that these words were from a speech of Dr. Tim Lautzenheiser. They have stayed with me since then.

Too Much Vitamins?

My office mate told me to try this Vitamin C called Fern-C because I always have colds. She used to be prone to colds too but since taking this vitamin since December, she said she has never been sick. I started using it yesterday so I cant you yet how it is for me. But since I sometimes take Vitamin B for my blood circulation, I am not sure if I am taking too much already. I eat enough food and get enough rest but I feel you can never be too safe so I take these vitamins and supplements. My mother takes medicines for her hypertension and Vitamin B as well, and then when she read about a Review of Trigosamine, she thinks its alright for her to take it as well. She always complain about her aching joints and I keep telling her that its her old age that is bothering her. She always replies that at 55, she is still very young to have those aches and pains so I just let her be. I know that she is eating right too so I just hope that too much vitamins is not bad for her as well. I guess I am just like my mother that we worry too much.

Am I ready for another baby?

This morning when I woke up my 12-year old eldest son, he was smiling. He said he had a dream that I was pregnant and it was a girl. I don't know if it was his way of telling me that he is okay to have another sibling, but I just smiled back at him. I already have three kids and although my husband thinks that we are okay to have another child, I am not so sure. Before I make the decision to have another child, there are a lot of factors to consider. My youngest is already six years old so there would be no problem on that front but I am thinking of the expenses of raising another baby. I know that parenting is a lot easier now, thanks websites like KidSafe with their baby proofing products and child safety tips. I know that despite my experience in raising children, I need to be informed about recent safety issues that I can find at their KidSafe blog or through their presence at other social networking sites like YouTube, Facebook and Twitter. I will even be aware of where to buy baby gates, child safety locks and all stuff I need to baby proof the house. I know that with all these help and information that I need to keep my kids safe, I still have to think very hard if I am really ready for another child not just financially bit emotionally as well. And as for my eldest wanting another sibling, he may just have to wait a little longer.

Museo de Loboc in Bohol

This is an offshoot of my series of posts on the Churches of Bohol. The Museo de Loboc is attached to the Loboc church. According to one website, the museum used to be a convent. It looks old and in a state of disrepair from afar and especially up close.
This is yours truly at the entrance to the museum.

There are old religious artifacts in the museum and my husband, a former altar boy was fascinated. Here he is with the bell.

I don't know what these are but they look creepy to me!

Some more of the church artifacts. There are also old clothes of religious statues in the museum, an old Latin bible and some more things to interest my altar boy husband.

This is yours truly at the museum. The room is airy and the hall is quite large.

I am sure the museum looks very beautiful when it was new. Just look at the details of the wall.

And this is yours truly with my back at that infamous road to nowhere. That is a bridge that was constructed without much planning nor thinking! The century-old church would have to be destroyed just to give way to that white elephant!

Oh, and I forgot to post this picture of the bell tower of the Loboc Church. Yes, its across the street from the church. Its said to be leaning because of the debris from the construction of the bridge but I will let you decide from this picture.

Next post on my Churches of Bohol series will be Albur Church.

Another surgery?

I had a surgery some six years ago for my sinusitis, called a functional endoscopic sinus surgery. It was a major operation and I was on general anesthesia. It was finished when I woke up, and the only restriction was for me not to blow my nose too hard. I was not scared then because I didn't know what would happen. Now, I think my sinuses are blocked again and I need another surgery. Frankly, I am scared and I am thinking of getting a No Exam Life Insurance already. I don't think that I want another surgery unless I really need. I am going to the doctor tomorrow for a consultation and I am dreading it. I can really feel the blocked sinuses especially when I have colds. Just yesterday when I was doing my daily afternoon run, I had pain on the left side of my head. My face also felt painful and i know its because of the sinusitis. I know that I should stop writing and just go the doctor but I am just scared. I also know that I am acting like a hypochondriac and maybe unnecessarily stressing myself but I cant help it. What if this is something else, something serious? What if?

Mellow Yellow Monday: Family

What could be more important than family? Taken last Sunday when we went out to SM to have dinner after the mass. We ended up buying a bag and jeans for Drexelle, lip balm for Ishi and rice cooker for me! Happy me!

We cherish simple moments like this and hope that our kids will grow up to be loving parents to their kids someday. We hope that the time we are spending with them gives them the same joy that we are getting. I always thank the Lord for blessing me with my family.

Insurance at the Right Price

I was just saying on another post that getting insurance is a wise decision. But I completely forgot that although some people want to get insurance, they cannot afford to pay the premiums. They need the money to pay bills and buy essentials. Therefore, we must look for insurance at the right price so we need not sacrifice our present just so we can have a safe future. I mean, what is the point of paying for insurance if you cannot even afford your living expenses today? Good thing that there are insurance at the right price for all our needs: business car insurance, or small business insurance. All you have to do is look for a nice and refutable insurance company that can give you a fair and competitive quote. I am lucky that I already have a comprehensive health insurance from our company but for those looking for good group health insurance rates, I am sure that you can save a lot. If you are getting health insurance for your whole family or for your employees, be sure to get it at the right price. This way, you invest securely in your future without sacrificing your needs today.

Are You Insured?

I know its true that you will never appreciate the importance of insurance until you need it. And I am thankful that I already have one in place even before we need it! Take the case of our home insurance in Montalban. When Ondoy hit us, we were able to get some money from the proceeds of our insurance. We used it to rebuild some portion of the house. It was not enough, but it was better than nothing. I have some friends who were more affected by the typhoon but they did not have any insurance. I know some people are not believers, especially because of the prohibitive nature of some commercial insurance rates but I still think it is still a good investment. When we had a motorcycle accident just last Friday, I already thought of getting personal insurance for me and my husband. Although we have insurance from our respective work, I know that we need the security as well. I hope to find some good rates just like this California local insurance and this Kansas insurance. I need them not just for our future's security but for my peace of mind as well. You really never know what will happen tomorrow so it is only best that we be prepared.

Friday Quotes: Luck

Bad luck is universal. Don't take it personally.
Solomon Short

I do not believe that Friday the 13th is not a lucky day because today we had a motorcycle accident and I know that we were lucky. My husband and I had scrapes and bruises on our arms and legs but our new motorcycle survive with nary a scratch from the fall. The tricycle driver who we tried to avoid after he suddenly swerved left, was okay and even had to gall to tell us to slow down! We were lucky because that was all that happened to us. Can you imagine if there was a jeepney behind us that could have hit us when we fell? I still shudder just thinking about it. So I consider it good luck, and we had a lucky Friday the 13th!

The Churches of Bohol:Loboc Church

This a continuation of the series of blog posts I am doing on the churches of Bohol which we visited in December 2008 and June 2009. I have already posted pictures of Loay Church and Maribojoc Church.

This is Loboc Church, or The Church of San Pedro in Loboc, according to this website. I wasn't able to take a picture of the marker. I think because we went through the side door from the museum and I forgot to go back to look for the marker.

Another picture with yours truly.
This is the bell tower of the Loboc Church.
The decoration of the ceiling is very beautiful!
The inside of the church.
The altar of the church.
More pictures of the ceiling near the altar.

For more information on Loboc, Bohol and the church, please refer here. The Loboc Museum will be featured in another post.

My Hairstylist

I am not not vain but I like my hair pretty, just like any other normal girl. That is why only Ado, my hairstylist, touches my hair. And he is thrilled and flattered when I say that to him! He says it makes him feel as though he was trained at some Arizona beauty schools! He is the only one I trust to cut, color or relax my hair. I had a very bad experience when I tried another salon once when Ado was away. The style was horrible as the hairstylist wouldn't listen to my specific instructions. He said he knows the best style for my type of hair. He said is familiar with how to trim my hair according to the shape of my face. And I ended up looking funny! The hair style was just wasn't me! I was so furious I vowed never to return to them again. So Ado and I have a happy relationship. He is always delighted to see me because I really adore what he does to my hair and he said I am so easy to please. Maybe because I appreciate him more, he always exceeds my expectations every time I come to visit him. So I love my hairstylist and he loves me back.

Wednesday Happy Thoughts!

Its the time of the week again to count our blessings and here are 10 reasons for my happiness:
1. Finding old friends thru Facebook.
2. Visiting the dream house and finding everything in order. Except that I need to save for tiles, paints , etc etc.
3. Pag-ibig multi-purpose loan.
4. Danniel's excitement over his coming field trip, which is very contagious so we are all as excited as him.
5. New office uniforms! and I look good (translated as slim, he he)in them!
6. Good workout (5K in 40 minutes) everyday.
7. Loving husband who paid all tuition fees this month.
8. Kids who ask you "Mommy, galit ka?" which makes you forget that you are irritated over something.
9. Thoughtful sister who did the laundry on your behalf because you were not feeling well.
10. Mother who keeps on asking you what you want for dinner.

Bills and Reconnection Fees

We went to our house in Montalban last Sunday and were surprised to see lots of bills scattered on my gate. Then we checked the faucet, the water service was disconnected! So one of the bills that was lying around, muddy on the floor was for our water service. And I was dismayed to find out that the reconnection fee that I was supposed to pay was way higher than what I have to pay for our consumption! I wanted to complain, but then I realized that it was really my fault for not paying the bills on time. Of course, if only they will allow a change of address on my bill, then I will receive them on time and would have paid them on time as well. But for water services, the bill can only be addressed to where the service is being rendered. Then I realized that the reason why I did not pay for m water service was because I paid in excess the last time and I didn't anticipate that it was not enough to cover the 2 months that I didn't pay. I forgot to factor in the consumption during the construction period! Oh my, goes to show how old I am.

A Real Website

I have been told too many times that a blogspot blog is not a real website. "As compared to" is my automatic and immediate reply, but sometimes it's just not worth it to explain. Some people would just put a label to things that most of the times they have no real concept of what it is all about! But just to put an end to his, I went and searched the webhosting hub for some ideas. I found out how easy it was to create a site that sometimes comes with a free domain name. I have always used blogger so I have no idea how to sign up with another web host but I found it to be surprisingly easy and painless! I can even transfer this blog to the new site without much trouble. And I need not worry much about learning new commands because the publishing control panel is just too user friendly. Of course, I have to think really hard whether I should give up blogger just because of the haters. It would really mean a lot to me if my blog would to be labeled a real website. But I guess I need to think about it more and work on my content in the meantime.

If it's very painful for you to criticize your friends -- you're safe in doing it. But if you take the slightest pleasure in it, that's the time to hold your tongue.

The Letter

Too funny not to share, I know I have read this already somewhere but I lifted from here here.

A mother passing by her daughter's bedroom was astonished to see the bed was nicely made and everything was picked up. Then she saw an envelope propped up prominently on the center of the bed. It was addressed, "Mom." With the worst premonition, she opened the envelope and read the letter with trembling hands:

Justify FullDear Mom: It is with great regret and sorrow that I'm writing you. I had to elope with my new boyfriend because I wanted to avoid a scene with Dad and you. I've been finding real passion with Ahmed and he is so nice even with all his piercings, tattoos, beard, and his motorcycle clothes. But it's not only the passion Mom, I'm pregnant and Ahmed said that we will be very happy. He already owns a trailer in the woods and has a stack of firewood for the whole winter. He wants to have many more children with me and that's now one of my dreams too. Ahmed taught me that marijuana doesn't really hurt anyone and we'll be growing it for us and trading it with his friends for all the cocaine and ecstasy we want. In the meantime, we'll pray that science will find a cure for AIDS so Ahmed can get better; he sure deserves it!! Don't worry Mom, I'm 15 years old now and I know how to take care of myself. Someday I'm sure we'll be back to visit so you can get to know your grand children.

Your daughter, Judith

PS: Mom, none of the above is true. I'm over the neighbor's house. I just wanted to remind you that there are worse things in life than my report card that's in my desk center drawer. I love you! Call when it is safe for me to come home.

Wednesday Happy Thoughts!

Its Wednesday again and time to count our blessings! So today, these are the things I am thankful for:
1. The continuous rains, (except the flood and the ensuing traffic) because it will end the water shortage.
2. My new phone, courtesy of my generous boss.
3. My mom's new (well, refurbished) phone, which is my company-issued phone.
4. Cebu Pacific's piso fare, because I was able to get a round trip ticket for two to Cagayan de Oro for less than P500!
5. For making my Lola happy.
6. For having the means to make her happy.
7. For my mom's happiness over my Lola's happiness.
8. For my younger sister's diligence in teaching my kids their lessons.
9. For my husband's generosity.
10. For "Mommy, I Love You, Goodnight" from my three kids every night.

Doctor, Doctor I am Sick!

Other than these pesky allergies, I am not really that sick. But I do sneeze a lot, as soon as I wake up and even while at the office. No amount of spraying Lysol all over the place seems to help. But I still feel blessed that my allergies are something that I can live with and even take for granted. I can do anything really, but I do make a lot of noise with this sneezing! But still, it is a lot to be thankful for that my body is just perfect for me. What about those who need surgery, not just for cosmetic purposes, but to function normally? If I do have the need for a plastic surgeon, I will check out Dr. Alan Dulin of Dallas’ American Institute of Plastic Surgery. He seems to be well-known in the circle for his credentials. Thankfully, I have no need for anything at the moment. I don't even think that these allergies are serious enough to warrant a visit to an allercologist. I will just continue to boost my immune system by eating properly and continuing my exercise regimen. Not only will I stay healthy, but I will also have a beautiful body! Naks!

Sugar Prices at Robinsons Supermarket

If sugar prices in your neighborhood palengke are at P54 per kilo, then check out these prices at Robinsons Supermarket in Galleria which I took yesterday. They are way cheaper!

Even my mother who goes to the Pasig Public Market everyday is complaining that brown sugar is at P55 per kilo. I wonder why when Robinsons can sell theirs at only P52?
